Chiefs start wrestling season strong

The McIntosh wrestling team has started their season. Last weekend, the Chiefs placed sixth at the Lion’s Duals at Peachtree Ridge.

Tigers take third at Flowery Branch

Fayette County’s wrestling team placed third in the Flowery Branch Duals. They beat Towers, St. Pius, Habersham and East Jackson but lost to Flowery Branch.

Former FCHS principal inducted into National Wrestling Hall of Fame

Gary Phillips wrestled a little bit in high school, but that was only because he didn’t play basketball. When he was coaching at Central High School in Macon, he helped out a bit with the wrestling team, but wasn’t the main coach.

Caveman Wrestling Camp at Northgate

Northgate High School wrestling will be holding its 16th annual Caveman wrestling camp June 22 - 25 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Northgate High School, Newnan. Clinicians attending will be Brandon Veasey - 3 times state placer, two time state finalist, founder of Georgia National Wrestling Alliance; Coach Adrian Anderson, over 300 dual meet wins, coached multiple State Champions and placers; visiting clinician Clark Rich. Special emphasis on linking takedowns, bottom and top positions into fluid system of movement in all situations.

Dixie Duals Champ

spor_wrestling_schmidt,van.JPGOne local Peachtree City wrestler represented Team Georgia on the national level this past weekend (March 20-23) at the 2009 Dixie Duals.  Georgia State Champion Van Schmidt competed in the 55lb slot for the 10U age group. Schmidt went 4-0 individually with two pins, while his team went 4-0 in the bracketed tournament.  The 2009 Dixie Duals were held in Vestavia Ala.

Three local wrestlers are state champs, Whitewater places second overall

Whitewater’s wrestling team placed second in the AAAA state wrestling tournament over the weekend, while Fayette County placed seventh.

Wrestlers move on from state sectionals

The wrestling teams from Fayette County sent a number of wrestlers to the Class AAAA West Sectionals last weekend and many of them performed well.

Indian wrestlers win area 4-AAAAA, Coweta sends many to state sectionals

East Coweta won the region 4-AAAAA championship over the weekend, the school’s first.

Booth wrestlers win county championship

The J.C. Booth Warriors wrestling team overcame a determined Whitewater Wildcats squad to win their thrilling match by a single point, and it was enough to carry them to a 5-0 sweep of all other schools and the 2009 FCMSAL Championship on Saturday Jan. 31.

Whitewater wins area wrestling championships

McIntosh hosted the area 5-AAAA wrestling tournament over the weekend and a number of local wrestlers qualified for the state sectionals this weekend. The top two teams were Whitewater, which won the meet and has recently won the state duals and a tournament at their school, and Fayette County.
