Sandy Creek's Wojcik wins second straight state title
One local wrestler captured a state title this weekend at the Georgia High School wrestling championships - Sandy Creek’s Derek Wojcik, a state champ last year as well.
State sectionals in wrestling/state meet in swimming change dates due to weather
The sectional tournaments for wrestling, which were originally scheduled for today and tomorrow have been cancelled.
Five Fayette high schools in top seven of area wrestling tournament
The area 5-AAAA wrestling tournament took place over the weekend and the teams from Fayette County did well. Whitewater placed second behind Alexander and head of Fayette County (3rd), Sandy Creek (4th), McIntosh (6th) and Starr’s Mill (7th). Overall, 32 wrestlers from the five schools have qualified for the AAAA state sectionals at Upson Lee this weekend.
Wildcats sixth at Southside Brawl, Patriots second at Lovejoy meet
Whitewater hosted the Southside Brawl last Friday and Saturday and placed sixth, the highest finish of any of the local teams participating. Following the Wildcats were McIntosh is seventh, Starr’s Mill in 12th and Landmark in 15th.
Tigers go 2-2 at state duals
Fayette County lost to Marist 33-31 in the Class AAAA state duals on Friday, but bounced back with a few wins.
McIntosh JV wrestlers have a successful break
The McIntosh Junior Varsity wrestling team had a productive Christmas break successfully participating in two challenging tournaments with many quality teams and opponents.
Multiple medalists include Justin Durden who won the 160 pound weight class at both the Pike County Tournament at Pike County High School on December 19th and South Metro JV tournament on January 2nd at Henry County High School.

Fayette County won the South Metro wrestling tournament, ahead of Woodward Academy (2nd) and Henry County (3rd).
JV Chiefs earn six medals at Alexander wrestling meet
The McIntosh Junior Varsity wrestling team participated in the Alexander High School JV Tournament last Saturday.
Coach James Fleckenstein brought 22 wrestlers to the tournament that included teams from perennially powerful programs such as McEachern, Cass, Bremen, Whitewater, Fayette County and Marist.
Chiefs start wrestling season strong
The McIntosh wrestling team has started their season. Last weekend, the Chiefs placed sixth at the Lion’s Duals at Peachtree Ridge.
