The Georgia Volleyball Coaches Association presented the GVCA All-State Awards at the conclusion of the annual All-Star match Saturday.

Whitewater’s volleyball team (42-15) came up just a little short in their bid for a title in the Class AAAA championships.

The Sandy Creek volleyball team won their second state title on Saturday, beating St. Pius X in three games. In the back row, from left, are Asst. Fayette County has three of the final eight teams alive in the Class AAAA volleyball playoffs.

Sandy Creek’s Lady Patriots (40-7), the top ranked team in Class AAA, made quick work of West Laurens in the first round of the Class AAA state volleyball playoffs last week.

Whitewater and Sandy Creek’s volleyball teams won area titles over the weekend and will open the state playoffs in their respective classifications as number one seeds with home games.

Sandy Creek’s varsity volleyball team (35-7), winners of 12 games in a row, enters the postseason as the top ranked team in Class AAA, according to the most recent PrepCountry.com GACA coaches poll.

Five local volleyball teams are in the top 10 of their respective classifications in the most recent PrepCountry.com/GACA Coaches Polls.

Under the direction of head coach Wendy Weaver and assistant coach Meredith Bragg, the McIntosh High School varsity volleyball team went undefeated winning the annual Fayette Sweet 16 volleyball tournament.

McIntosh (8-3) split their matches last Thursday, beating Marist (25-16, 25-23) but losing to Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy (22-25, 25-18, 26-24).
