Sandy Creek’s Allie Davenport earns All-American volleyball honors
A local volleyball player is making news, again. Following a tremendous 2012 volleyball season, Sandy Creek’s Allie Davenport has added yet another award to her growing list of accolades. In addition to leading the Fighting Patriots to another state title this year, she was recently named a first team high school All-American by MaxPreps.
Whitewater player named Gatorade Georgia Volleyball Player of the Year
In its 28th year of honoring the nation’s best high school athletes, The Gatorade Company, in collaboration with USA TODAY High School Sports, recently announced Teegan Van Gunst of Whitewater High School as its 2012-13 Gatorade Georgia Volleyball Player of the Year.
Local players all over all state volleyball teams
A number of local volleyball players were named to the All State teams and two players were named player of the year for their classifications.
This is volleyball country
There are six classifications in the Georgia High School Association this year. If we count Landmark Christian School as part of Fayette County (which we do because the school is located close to the Fayette border and has numerous students from the county), there were four teams playing in state championships in three different classifications either Saturday or Monday.

The Lady Patriots’ Volleyball team are state champs for the second year in a row.
Four volleyball teams reach state finals
Four of the five local volleyball teams that made the state semifinals in their respective classifications will play for state championships. Sandy Creek and Landmark go for their titles on Saturday and McIntosh and Whitewater will tangle on Monday.
