Sandy Creek graduate and current member of the University of Florida track team, Christian Taylor, is the world champion in the triple jump.
The Quad City Striders track club competed in the 2011 Junior Olympics in New Orleans, La. and won the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 7:52.06. The members of the national championship team are Jelani Courtney (Whitewater High School), Jamie Bigby (Sandy Creek High School), Jabrelle Crawford (Putnam County) and Brandon Coombs (Evans).
Starr’s Mill’s girls won the region 3-AAAA track meet last week, while Fayette County took third, McIntosh finished in fifth and Whitewater placed seventh. Placing for their respective teams were:
The Georgia Olympics, the boys state track meet, took place last week and several local athletes did well and placed, scoring points for their teams.
Starr’s Mill hosted a track meet last Friday night and did very well in the 11-school meet. The boys placed second behind Newton, while the girls finished second behind Alexander.
Whitewater was third in boys and fourth in girls, while Sandy Creek placed fifth in both boys and girls.
Members of the Peachtree City Flash Youth Track & Field team swept the boys 9-10 year old division in Saturday’s Crabapple Elementary School 5K race.
Whitewater’s boys took second in the region 5-AAAA
championships, ahead of Starr’s Mill in third, but behind Banneker by 9.5 points. Sandy Creek took fifth, McIntosh palced sixth and Fayette County placed 11th.
The state track meets for girls took place last weekend and area schools proved their mettle with top finishes.
Starr’s Mill’s girls won the region 5-AAAA championship with 104 points, 17 points better than Alexander in second place.
Sandy Creek hosted a tri-meet last Wednesday with Starr’s Mill and MLK and both local schools nabbed a number of top finishes.
