Sandy Creek High School was the setting for the 2012 Fayette County Track and Field Championships and the Sandy Creek boys won the county title on the boys side.

Fifteen teams competed in the Friday Night Lights meet at Starr’s Mill. Sandy Creek’s boys placed first with East Coweta in eighth, McIntosh in 10th, Starr’s Mill in 11th and Newnan 14th.

Sandy Creek hosted the Patriot Invitational last Saturday and saw the local teams and athletes perform very well.

On the boys side, Sandy Creek finished in second place, while Fayette County placed seventh, East Coweta finished eighth, Starr’s Mill took ninth, McIntosh placed 10th and Whitewater finished in 11th.

Sandy Creek hosted the Patriot Invitational last Saturday and saw the local teams and athletes perform very well.

Whitewater and Northgate competed in the second annual Eagles Early Bird Invitational at North Clayton High School last Saturday.

Starr’s Mill held the Panther Relays last Saturday and despite a soggy start, the event featured some top notch talent and good results for local teams.

Whitewater and Our Lady of Mercy’s boys and girls competed in the Westlake Lions Showcase on Saturday.

Landmark’s boys and girls hosted a track meet against eight other teams on Saturday. The boys placed fourth overall and the girls placed ninth.

Starr’s Mill’s boys and girls track team competed in the Hornet 8 Way Invitational in Roswell on Saturday. The boys placed fourth overall, while the girls placed eighth.

Christian Taylor, a Sandy Creek graduate, current senior at the University of Florida, and world champion in the triple jump, is up for the Jesse Owens Award.
