Flint River Academy Track Team advances to state

The Flint River Academy Girls and Boys track teams will be competing at the state championship meet this weekend at Mills Stadium in Albany, Ga.

The Regional Finals were held April 18 at The Heritage School in Newnan. The top two competitors for the season in each event compete in the Region Meet, and the top four finishers at the Region Finals advance to the State Finals.

Our Lady of Mercy girls take second at region 5-A championship track meet

Our Lady of Mercy’s girls placed second (77 points) in the region 5-A championships behind Wesleyan (132), while Landmark Christian took eighth (23). On the boys side, Mercy placed fourth (57), while Landmark took eighth (30). Wesleyan won the boys side with 118 points.

Lots of top finishes for locals at region 3-AAAA championships

Starr’s Mill hosted the Region 3-AAAA boys and girls track and field championships last week. On the girls side, McIntosh placed second (84) points behind Woodland, Henry (91), while Whitewater took third (71), Northgate placed fourth (66), Starr’s Mill placed eighth (39) and Fayette County placed 11th (24).

Sandy Creek boys win region track title, girls take second

Sandy Creek hosted the region 4-AAA track and field championships last week. The boys won with 171 points, followed by Drew in second with 101 points, while the girls finished second to Spalding High School (134.5) with 122 points.

East Coweta and Newnan track athletes run well at region meet

East Coweta and Newnan had numerous athletes perform well at the region 2-AAAAA track meet last week. Those scoring points for their teams were:

Starr's Mill and McIntosh run well at Starr's Mill senior night meet

Starr’s Mill hosted a Senior Night track event last Thursday against McIntosh, Redan, Jones County and Dutchtown. The local teams did very well in the meet.

Locals do well at middle school track meet

The 25th annual Peachtree CIty Invitational Middle School Track Meet held Saturday at McIntosh High School saw some stellar performances by Fayette County middle school athletes. Rising Starr’s Daniel Roberts set two meet records with a 15.6 second time in the 110 meter intermediate hurdles and a 41’ 3” jump in the triple jump breaking a 14 year old record.  

East Coweta girls, Sandy Creek boys win Fayette Speed Meet

Fayette County High School hosted the annual Speed Meet last week. East Coweta won the girls side, followed by Sandy Creek in second, Northgate in fifth, Newnan in sixth and Fayette County in ninth.

College track notables - week of 4/2

• Sandy Creek graduate Michael Dehaven is a member of the Auburn University 4x100 meter relay team. In the preliminaries of the Texas Relays, the team ran a 38.95, breaking a 35 year old school record. It was also the fastest time in the nation this year until the final when Auburn ran a 38.30, breaking the meet record of 38.7. 38.30 is the fourth fastest time in NCAA history. Dehaven is a fifth year senior and a four time All American.

Whitewater girls win county track title

Sandy Creek High School was the setting for the 2012 Fayette County Track and Field Championships and the Whitewater girls won the county title on the girls side.
