Local wrestlers headed to state

The area tournaments for wrestling took place last weekend and numerous local wrestlers will advance to the state sectionals this week.

Penland gets 200th win as Whitewater picks up two more dual meet wins

Whitewater went into Brookwood the only 5A school against 6A State Dual placers Chattahoochee, Lowndes and Brookwood, but came out winners in their final dual meet in Snellville on Friday night.

Over 20 schools from Georgia joined the Wildcats at the Southside Brawl this weekend at Whitewater High School. Whitewater took third at the event. Five Wildcats made it to the championship round with eight medaling in the tournament.

At the 2012 Georgia High School State Traditional Wrestling Championships, and later at the Georgia State Wrestling Champions Awards Banquet, Pete Fritts Sr. (left) of Peachtree City and Arthur Potter (right) of Fayetteville were presented plaques by the Atlanta Takedown Association and the Georgia National Wrestling Association, respectively. Schmidt wins another Folkstyle state title

Schmidt secured his third Folkstyle State Title in dominating fashion. He finished the entire tournament without having a point scored against him.

Area produces several state placers

The Whitewater Wildcats exceeded expectations again providing a number of upsets and placing fifth as a team at the Georgia AAAA State Tournament at the Gwinnett Arena last weekend. The team finished with two 2nd place finishes and a 4th place finisher.

Local wrestlers advance from state sectionals to state tournament

The Whitewater Wildcats will be well represented next week at the state tournament with 9 of 14 weight classes represented after the East Sectional at Loganville High School.
