Fayette County rock climber ranks 9th in the nation
The 2009 Youth National Climbing Championships were 11 months away and a very distant goal when William “Billy” Porter III and his teammates from Reality Climbing gym in Tyrone began training last September. But Billy and his 12 teammates had a goal ‘to get the whole team to Nationals and they trained as a dedicated unit four to six days a week in an effort to achieve their goal.
Reality Indoor Climbing reveals new teams, structure
Reality’s Youth Climbing Programs will be kicking into high gear again soon and registration is open. All teams operate on a first come first serve basis so don’t miss it.
There are many new changes to the team’s line up this season. There are four newly named teams: Bronze - ages 7-9 years - open registration, Silver A - ages 10-12 years - open registration, Silver B - ages 13+ - open registration and Gold - try-outs required for this competitive climbing team.

Youth Rock Climbing Registration for the 2010 season runs through the end of July. Aspiring climbers ages 7-17 sign up now. Registration is on a first come first serve basis. Programs begin in September and run through May at Reality Climbing in Tyrone, Ga. For more information call 770-487-3224.
Local rock climbers qualify for national championship
The Division 4 Youth Climbing Championships (an invitation only event) were held June 13th and 14th in Melbourne, FL. With only five Divisions covering the entire USA, Division 4 was comprised of the best youth climbing had to offer from FL, GA, AL, TN, MS, SC, NC, VA and WVA. These nine states sent a total of 108 of their best climbers to this event. Thirty-eight of those climbers hail from Georgia. Eleven live and train right here in Fayette County at Reality Climbing in Tyrone.
Team Reality starts season with competition in Athens
Indoor rock climbing is not just for birthday parties anymore! Sport climbing, under the umbrella of USA Climbing (http://usaclimbing.net), and endorsed by the US and International Olympic Committees, is rapidly growing and getting a lot of attention as a competitive sport. Team Reality, located at Reality Climbing in Peachtree City, ventured to their first of four local competitions on Feb. 28.
Reality Indoor Climbing takes on Everest...sort of
Mount Everest a mountain in the central Himalayas on the border of Tibet and Nepal is the highest mountain peak in the world. Standing proudly at 29,035 feet this imposing peak has thwarted many a strong climber’s attempt to summit. The weather on this mountain can be both treacherous and unpredictable. Team Reality, a local competitive climbing team, believes they are up to the challenge.

When William “Billy” Porter III joined Team Reality last year he had a few goals in mind. When he qualified for and attended the 2008 Youth National Climbing Championship in California this past July, he thought he had achieved everything he could in one season. That was until a few weeks ago.
