The girls region teams in Region 3-AAAA were divided by the sub-regions.

The all-region team for Boys region 3-AAAA was announced.

Ekene Anachebe of Fayette County is currently tied for Player of the Year with Alcovy’s DeVon Edwards.

The Sandy Creek Patriots did not score on their first possession in their Class AAA second round state playoff game, but they did get two Mike Hilton touchdowns in the first quarter (4 yd td run and 2 yd td run) on their way to a 42-14 win over the Troup Tigers.

The Sandy Creek Patriots were in control of their state playoff game against Butler from the kickoff. Eric Swinney returned the opening kick 90 yards for a touchdown and the Patriots never trailed. They didn’t give up any points until late in the third quarter when the clock was constantly running because the Patriots were up by 55 points.

Making history seems like old hat for the two-time state champion Sandy Creek Patriots, but they made some more history tonight with their fourth straight region title, something that had never been done in the county before. The Patriots hosted Stockbridge and won 22-14.

Coaches will tell you that to beat a good team you usually have to play a solid all four quarters of the game. Against Northgate in the de facto sub-region 3-AAAA championship, the Whitewater Wildcats played a good first half.

The Fayette County Tigers had seen plenty of games slip away from them late this season. Tonight, they added two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to secure their first victory of the season. Fayette County beat McIntosh 35-7 and the players gave their head coach, Mike Davis, a Gatorade bath to celebrate his first win at the school.

It was a short week of practice for Sandy Creek. They survived a region battle with Eastside last Saturday and took the field at home for homecoming against Locust Grove tonight. They certainly didn’t look tired. Rather, they appeared motivated to get a comfortable enough lead and enjoy the festivities.

The first half of tonight’s game featuring Whitewater and Starr’s Mill wasn’t what anyone would consider exciting, save for a big play on offense on each side, one from Starr's Mill's Randon Ruff and the other from Whitewater's Trey Wafford.

One game was a close region contest and the other was a big victory over a region rival.
