The building that formally housed Velocity Sports Performance in Peachtree City is now the base of operations for Pure Hitting Sports Academy, a place for baseball and softball players of all ages.

The Whitewater Lady Wildcats came close to winning the whole thing this year. Instead, they came up a little short.

Whitewater’s varsity softball team is headed to Columbus.

Whitewater (32-8) demolished Jonesboro last Wednesday in the opening round of the Class AAAA state softball playoffs. The Lady Wildcats won game one 15-0 and won game two 19-0.

How close was the Whitewater softball team to a region title? Two runs. The Lady Wildcats lost to eventual region champions Union Grove 1-0 in the first game of the region 3-AAAA final four, in international tiebreaker, and then lost to them again 1-0 in the region championship. Between the one run losses, Whitewater beat Northgate 10-7 and beat Ola 8-0.

Making the Class AAAA state softball tournament out of region 3-AAAA is no easy task. Five teams from the region (Whitewater, Northgate, Jones County, Union Grove and Ola) are all ranked in the top 10 of that classification.

The regular season for high school softball ends this week and the region tournament, at least for 3-AAAA, is right around the corner.

McIntosh’s varsity softball team won the Carrollton softball tournament over the weekend. The Lady Chiefs went 5-0 and improved to 15-10 on the season.

Whitewater’s softball team (16-1), now ranked third in Class AAAA, won the Cherokee Invitational over the weekend, beating Gordon-Lee, ranked first in Class A, 5-2 in the final.

Whitewater and McIntosh met on the softball diamond Tuesday night and the Lady Wildcats won 11-2.
