Starr's Mill

Sandy Creek hosted a tri-meet last Wednesday with Starr’s Mill and MLK and both local schools nabbed a number of top finishes.

Coach Brent Moseley was recognized and honored at the Starr’s Mill High School Baseball Community and Senior night, Apr. 14, for being named the 2009 GA Dugout Club 4-AAAA Coach of the Year.

The regular season for the varsity baseball teams ends this week for teams in Region 5-AAAA and the region playoffs will begin next week.

Last Tuesday, the Starrs’ Mill varsity girls tennis team brought home the region trophy for the third time in a row under the direction of Coach Ron Mann, edging out arch-rivals McIntosh in the finals.

McIntosh’s varsity boys soccer team (16-1), ranked first in Class AAAA, played two games in Alabama recently and won both games.

The Fayette County Championships were held last week at Fayette County High School and Starr’s Mill’s boys and girls won county titles, but each school in the county had a number of athletes score points and perform well.

Saturday was a good day for baseball and a good day for Whitewater and Starr’s Mill.

It was a Battle for the Troops and a battle for bragging rights. At the end of the night, each school had something to cheer about.

There's still a lot of baseball to be played but teams are making some moves in the standings.

Think of the last few weeks of the soccer season as a good meal. If the soccer games between Whitewater and Starr’s Mill were the appetizer, last Friday’s games between Whitewater and McIntosh were the main course, making tomorrow’s games between McIntosh and Starr’s Mill a delectable dessert that puts the cap on an awesome experience.
