Panthers enjoy consistency with new head coach

Mike Earwood is gone, but not forgotten. Baseball draft nets 7 local players-update

Several local baseball players were selected by Major League teams in the annual amateur baseball draft earlier this week.

Leading the pack was shortstop Cartier Goodrum of Fayette County High School, picked 71st overall by the Minnesota Twins. His scouting report indicates the he has “plenty of speed and some raw power from both sides of the plate.”

Taken 137th overall by the Florida Marlins was Alvin Toles, an outfielder from Sandy Creek High School. Georgia Tech pitcher Andrew Robinson, a former Starr’s Mill standout, was drafted 363rd by the Houston Astros.

Bedrosian heads list of area Major League Baseball draftees

East Coweta High School knew it had an ace in pitcher Cam Bedrosian.
He now has made the jump to elite status, having been drafted 29th overall by the Los Angeles Angels in the 2010 Major League Baseball amateur draft.
Bedrosian has “outstanding stuff” including a mid-90s fastball and a solid slider, and he has a good feel for pitching, according to his MLB scouting report. At six feet tall, he doesn’t have a traditional pitcher’s height, but any lack in that department is more than made up with a heavy dose of competitiveness and mound smarts, according to the scouting report.
