On Friday, March 5, elite fastpitch softball players from Fayette County and from all over the state of Georgia and Alabama, gathered at Peachtree City Meade Fields for the first annual Spring Training of the Georgia Academy Power softball organization.

Former Alabama All-American catcher Ashley Holcombe of Fayetteville, was named to the 2010 Team USA softball roster as announced by the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America. Holcombe, a graduate of Fayette County High School, was one of 17 athletes that were offered a USA Softball Athlete Agreement for the 2010 season.

The 2009 Little League World Series Softball Champions from Warner Robins, Ga, will be introduced and congratulated during the Little League State Leadership Conference, Saturday, Jan. 9, at Glendalough Manor in Tyrone.  The team will be available from 12:30 – 2 p.m.  The public is invited to share in the congratulations of the team.

The Peachtree City 6U Ponies defeated the Tyrone Chili Peppers with a last inning unassisted triple play.  Lauren Flanders, pitcher for the Ponies caught a fly ball in the infield and preceded to tag second base and the first base runner for all three outs.  The entire team hit hard and played strong defense. The Ponies won the season ending tournament by a score of 16 - 11 and finished second for the fall 2009 season.

The 2009 5-AAAA All Region Team was recently selected by the Region 5-AAAA Coaches.

Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls can’t claim that their six championships were “in a row”, but the 2009 Whitewater Middle School Lady Wildcats’ softball team can.

Prior to their loss to Evans in the first game of the Class AAAA Elite Eight in Columbus, the Whitewater Lady Wildcats varsity softball team had lost once.

Whitewater’s Lady Wildcat varsity softball team took the long road to the state final, but their quest for a AAAA state championship fell short.

Whitewater’s varsity softball team is still in the hunt for a state title.

Whitewater’s varsity softball team faced Ola this morning and won 7-3, advancing the Lady Wildcats to a 3 p.m. game with Jones County in Columbus, assuming the weather holds.
