Starr’s Mill’s boys, ranked first in Class AAAA and third in the state, defeated Northgate 4-1 on Tuesday, while the Lady Panthers, ranked second in AAAA and 10th in the state, lost 1-0.

Chiefs, Cougars and Bobcats advance in region tourneys
McIntosh’s boys advanced to the second round of the Region 5-AAAA tournament at Lithia Springs with a 67-47 win over Northgate on Tuesday. Jeremy Lampkin led the Chiefs with 21 points, while Michael Chisholm added 18 and Josh Ball contributed 11. Northgate was led by 22 points from Brandon Hopkins and 12 points from Marquez Mobley.
The Chiefs will now face Banneker at 4 p.m. on Thursday. The winner will qualify for the state tournament and will take on the winner of the Fayette County/Mays or Whitewater game.
Mays played Whitewater Tuesday afternoon but a score has yet to be reported.
Mixed results for local teams in region basketball tournaments
Region basketball tournaments are in full swing during this winter break week and several local teams are now on a much longer break.
Several teams start soccer season with wins
In what looks to be the earliest start to high school soccer season that this reporter can remember, the local teams have taken the field and are ready to prove their mettle.

East Coweta won the region 4-AAAAA championship over the weekend, the school’s first.
Northgate basketball swept by Lithia Springs
Northgate took on Lithia Springs on Tuesday and lost in both the boys and girls games.
The Vikings (7-11) lost 76-36 with Marquez Mobley leading the team with 12 points. Over the weekend, they defeated Douglas County 65-44 but lost to Banneker on Saturday 59-36.
The Lady Vikings’ 52-39 loss to Lithia Springs was their fourth in a row. Last weekend, Northgate’s girls (13-7) fell to Douglas County 48-38 and then lost to Banneker 65-47. Erica Albers led Northgate with nine points against Lithia Springs.
Northgate will play at Tri-Cities tonight.
