Local lacrosse referee to officiate the World Games

By Anonymous - Posted on 13 July 2010

If you have been to a local boys lacrosse game then chances are that you have seen Jeff Bruso referee. You may not have noticed him and that is exactly how he wants it to be.

“If I can get through a game and nobody has noticed the officiating, then I have done my job” claims Bruso, a physical education teacher at Bennett’s Mill Middle School where he also coaches football and wrestling.

Bruso has been selected as one of 12 U.S. officials that will represent our country in the upcoming World Lacrosse Games to be held in Manchester, England July 15-24. He is the only official that was selected from the state of Georgia. Bruso was invited to try-out for a chance to represent the United States last summer at Bryant University in Rhode Island. After the try-outs he was selected as an alternate, but when the International Federation of Lacrosse was bombarded by 30 nations that wanted to compete in the world games, they decided to take two more U.S. officials.

“It is an honor to represent our country in this premiere event that will be held in Manchester. I am looking forward to officiating with referees from across the world,” Bruso said about the opportunity.

The Lacrosse World Games are held every four years in various locations around the world. Denver, Colorado was just awarded the bid to host the games in 2014. The best players from across the U.S. attended the same try-outs that Bruso attended last summer to vie for a spot on Team USA. Bruso is looking forward to representing Peachtree City, Fayette County, Georgia, and the United States when he travels to Manchester. He is hoping not to be noticed like some of the officials in the World Cup Soccer Championships were a few weeks ago.
