Spalding County youth shooting sports leaders honored in Fayette County
Roy McClain and Lisa Kelley are known very well by many in the Spalding County area and beyond for their dedication to youth shooting sports through various youth organizations and especially the local 4-H program.
They have both been instrumental in many state and national championship air rifle teams and are known throughout the state as leaders of one of the state's, if not the nation's, most respected programs. Last month they received an honor from another county.
On May 23, at the Fayette County Shooting Sports Awards Banquet, McClain and Kelley were presented with a bronzed eagle statuette for their inspiration, efforts and guidance in assisting the Fayette County 4-H in starting a youth air rifle program. Additionally, the board members also decided that the highest award presented at each year's banquet would now be called the McClain-Kelley Award.
"There's no doubt that without the tremendous support from Lisa and Roy, we would not have a program this year for these 26 kids being recognized today at this banquet,” said Todd Day, President of the Fayette County 4-H Rifle Club. "It was also special for Roy to be here today and actually present the first award himself,” Day continued.
The award, the 2010 Fayette County Shooting Sports McClain-Kelley Award, was presented by Roy McClain to Otis Smith of Brooks, Ga. for an outstanding performance during the 2010 Georgia 4-H BB Gun Championships at Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Eatonton, Ga.
