PTC Rebels take home championship in Douglasville tournament
The Peachtree City Rebels travelled to Douglasville on Saturday June 19 and took home the championship in the GSA “It’s Getting Hot” tournament.
The Rebels stayed in the winners bracket all day winning their bracket games 12 - 2, 4 - 3, 3 - 2, and the championship game 9 – 7. The Rebels where led by pitching from Sam Laing and Madeline Conner; and stellar play behind the plate by Cayleigh Weekley. Offensively the Rebels benefited from two multi-run home runs by Ashley Powers, a home run by Jessica Simpson, and six RBIs from Kristina Laposka.
“Our bats came alive as the day progressed”, Coach Lee Conner commented after the championship game. “We had some timely hits, consistent production from a number of the girls throughout the day, and some heads up base running. Our defense was solid and the pitching was outstanding. I couldn’t be more proud of the team and I know from their reaction after the game that they were very excited to win the tournament.”
