Whitewater hosts Marist in baseball semis after sweep of Jones Co.
The Whitewater Wildcats continued their red hot play with a two game series sweep over the Jones County Greyhounds on Tuesday night, 13-5 in game one and 7-6 in game two.
Whitewater did it with big bats on Tuesday, with six home runs over the two games including a pair of two run home runs from Drew Wesolowski. Alex Liquori also had a two run blast in the series. The relief pitching was also key for the Wildcats as Kyle Dearing pitched a solid four innings in game one and Garrett Knowles killed a Greyhound rally in the seventh in game two after five innings of strong relief work from the team.
Whitewater will host Marist in a doubleheader at 4 p.m. on Monday. A third game, if necessary, will take place Tuesday.
Marist knocked the Wildcats out of the AAAA playoffs last year. The War Eagles (26-8) have scored 32 more runs in three more games than Whitewater and allowed 27 less. Marist swept Alcovy, 10-5 and 9-0, but the previous two series with Loganville and South Paulding both went to three games. Whitewater has won 10 in a row and Marist has won three in a row. The winner of this series will meet the winner of Lakeside, Evans and Wayne County next Friday.
If Whitewater wins, they will host the state championship series.
