OLM girls state runner up, others have great finishes at state track meet
The state track meets for girls took place last weekend and area schools proved their mettle with top finishes.
Our Lady of Mercy's Girls team finished as state runner up in Class A.
“Their second place finish was a true team effort and every athlete who competed scored points for the team,” said athletic director Bill Schmitz.
Megan Malasarte won the 400 meter and 800 meter for the third consecutive year, while Tynese St. Cyr finish sixth in the 100 meter and seventh in the 200 meter and Alyssa Maker finished sixth in the shot put. Mercy's 4x100 relay consisting of D'Arnca Bloodworth, Kristin McClure, Morgan McClure, Tynese St. Cyr and 4x400 relay of Morgan McClure, Olivia Roche, Chyna Terrell, and Megan Malasarte both finished second in Class A. The 4x400 team set a school record running 4:03.
Landmark Christian placed sixth in the meet and had two individual state champs. Lindy Long took first in the 3,200 meter run with a time of 11:12.960 and sixth in the 1,600 meter run with a time of 5:28.460. Lauren Toomer won the 100 meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 14.940. Kenzie Thrasher placed third in the pole vault with a vault of 9’.
Starr’s Mill’s girls placed sixth in the Class AAAA state meet.
Carline Evans was an individual state champion in the pole vault with a vault of 10’6, while teammate Shawna Lehamn took fourth with a vault of 9’6”. The Lady Panthers 4x400 meter relay team placed fourth with a time of 3:59.70, while Daisy Helm finished third in the 400 meter dash with a time of 56.490. Jackie Sample placed eighth in the 1,600 meter run with a time of 5:30.590 Molly Musselwhite took eighth in the hugh jump with a jump of 5’.
Sandy Creek’s Sushannie Blake placed fifth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.150 and seventh in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.370. Kaitlyn Taylor took seventh in the triple jump with a jump of 35’9.5”
Whitewater’s Bree Handy took eighth in the 300 meter low hurdles with a time of 49.120, while Jonell Taylor placed seventh in the high jump with a jump of 5’.
