Big wins for local baseball teams as season draws to a close

The regular season for the varsity baseball teams ends this week for teams in Region 5-AAAA and the region playoffs will begin next week.

Starr’s Mill snapped Whitewater’s 10 game winning streak with a 9-3 win over the Wildcats last Friday. Whitewater (16-5, 7-3 region) bounced back with a 5-4 win over McIntosh Monday and wraps up the regular season today at Lithia Springs. Starr’s Mill (12-7, 6-4) has won three games in a row, beating Lithia Springs 6-5 in nine innings last Wednesday and Fayette County 8-6 on Monday. Today, the Panthers will play at Douglas County and they will host Tri-Cities tomorrow at 5:55 p.m.

McIntosh (10-9, 5-4) completed the season sweep of Sandy Creek on Friday with a 14-9 win before falling to Whitewater on Monday. The Chiefs play at Tri-Cities today and host Fayette County Friday at 5:30 p.m. Sandy Creek (11-7, 4-5 region) picked up an 11-1 win over Douglas County after the loss to the Chiefs. They will play at Mays today and at Northgate at 5 p.m. Friday.

Fayette County (4-17, 0-9 region) got a 6-3 win over Alexander last week but has lost three straight since, falling to Northgate 16-6 on Friday, Milton 17-5 on Saturday and then to Starr’s Mill on Monday. The Tigers play at Banneker today and at McIntosh Friday.

In Region 5-A, Landmark Christian (18-1, 7-1 region) had their 17 game winning streak snapped as Walker handed them their first loss of the season, 6-5. The War Eagles bounced back Friday with a five-inning 13-3 win over Pace Academy. Landmark hosts North Cobb Christian tomorrow at 5 p.m. and plays at Whitefield Academy at 5 p.m. Friday.

Our Lady of Mercy (1-12, 1-8) lost to Whitefield 15-4 last Tuesday and Holy Innocents 19-4 last Friday. They will play at Walker tomorroe at 5:30 p.m.
