Military style workout has me fatigued

Yuk, yuk. I couldn’t help it. I love puns.

But seriously. This week’s meeting of Weigh Waaayyy Less featured a military style workout. It was a series of several exercises done repeatedly and once that set was over there was another one with some different things to do. And then another one. Our trainer, Sheila, is no drill sergeant, but she knows how to push us and also knows we won’t quit either.

The exercises that were done on Monday included pushups, crucnhes (so many crunches), lunges, lots with weights and these things where you lie down on your back with your legs pointing straight up to the ceiling and then you lift them up further by kind of lifting your hips. That sentence doesn’t sound right, but it didn’t feel right either, by which I mean, they were some of those “good pain” exercises. Real fun.

We don’t do this for fun, though. And this realization is starting to hit every member of the team. One person was at the gym off of Commerce Drive in Peachtree City and was blown away by the totals that the other teams have (The current totals are on display in the lobby). Needless to say, our team isn’t quite there yet. It was a bit of an eye-opener and soon emails were flying around about us getting serious and committing more to the cause over the second half of this program.

We’re down to a month to go and we are shooting for the five of us to lose a total of 24 pounds over the next four weeks. To make the math easy, I’m saying 25 which makes it at least five more from everybody. That will get to me to 191 - four away from my goal at the start of 187. Maybe I can do all nine pounds in four weeks, but my weight loss has started to slow. I lost maybe a half a pound over the last week and I was at the gym more often and not eating cake all the time.

I don’t have time to get discouraged though and I can only worry about what I do today and tomorrow and not about what I did yesterday or last week. The class doesn’t officially meet next week because of spring break, but we will all be working hard. We may not be the team that wins the whole thing, but we definitely won’t be the last place team either. I’m starting to see the competitive side of my teammates and they aren’t going to let that happen.
