McIntosh splits area lacrosse games, Whitewater over Marist
The McIntosh boy’s lacrosse team opened area play with a decisive win against Grady and an 8-4 loss against Lovett.
The Chiefs looked impressive against Grady, winning 17-3. Fourteen Chiefs scored in the game led by Ian Parker’s two goals and three assists and Sam Grayson’s three goals. Robert Tesoriero and Alex Scheumann’s four ground balls and a take away each led the defense for McIntosh.
On Saturday, McIntosh hosted two time defending state champion Lovett in a match of teams unbeaten in area play. The Chiefs jumped out to a commanding 4-0 lead on two goals each from Jake Polo and Jack Bornhofen. Lovett eventually got on the board in the second quarter, scoring three goals. The third quarter was a battle of the defenses, but in the 4th quarter Lovett scored four goals to put the game out of reach.
The Chiefs will play Decatur (4-2) tonight in an attempt to beat the team that eliminated them from the playoffs last year. They will then return to area play this week with a game against county rival, Starr’s Mill. Starr’s Mill is currently 5-1, coming off impressive wins against Kennesaw Mountain (10-5) and Campbell (29-0). The game will be at Starr’s Mill on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The Lady Chiefs will battle the Lady Panthers at 5:30 p.m. Both games should be very competitive and have a major effect on the area standings.
The varsity boys lacrosse team from Whitewater earned a signature win Friday night, defeating Marist 8-4 in a very physical game. Whitewater played agressive defense and used their suffocating press to force Marist into many turnovers.
Leading the scoring for the Wildcats were attackmen Ben Hester with a hat trick and two asissts and Ryan Simmons with a hat trick of his own along with an assist. Michael Pigg and Ryan Hurst each added a goal and Brandon Lee had an assist. Goalie Doke Massa led the defense with 12 saves.
The Wildcats play their next home game today against Kennesaw Mountain.
