Starr's Mill and McIntosh lacrosse teams pick up wins
Starr’s Mill hosted several lacrosse games on Saturday and the Panthers, both the varsity and junior varsity squads, made a good show.
The junior varsity team went 3-0, defeating McIntosh 9-6, Whitewater 12-8 and Lakeside Evans 13-4. McIntosh’s JV team beat Whitewater 11-0.
The Starr’s Mill varsity team played the final game of the afternoon and topped Lakeside Evans 6-5. Zach Klinker had three goals, James Haycraft, Kaleb Marks and DJ MacEachern had one goal each. Eric Yoggy had 2 assists and Nick Voso had 14 saves in goal.
The Panthers will play at Sprayberry on Thursday.
The McIntosh boy’s lacrosse team has opened the 2010 season with a 2-1 record. The team opened the season on the road with a 10-4 loss to Northview, but bounced back with wins against previously undefeated teams Westminster 10-7 and Blessed Trinity 15-9.
In the Westminster game, Cooper O’Brien helped lead the way defensively for the Chiefs, with 18 saves in goal. He was also helped by Kevin Bennett, Zac Randolph and Jake Polo, who each had four ground balls. The offense was led by goalie turned to middie, Bennett, who had three goals and an assist. Sam Grayson and Jack Bornhofen each had two assists in the game as well. The Chiefs were trailing at half 3-2, but came out strong in the second half to secure the win.
The Chiefs never trailed against Blessed Trinity in Monday’s game. The team was led defensively by Bennett’s four ground balls and two take aways and Alex Scheumann’s four ground balls and three take aways. The offense was led by Polo’s one goal and five assists, Jack Bornhofen’s three goals and one assist, and Ian Parker’s school record, eight goals and two assists.
The Chiefs traveled to South Forsyth Tuesday night and then take on Alpharetta at home Friday with the JV game starting at 5 p.m. and the varsity at 7 p.m.
