Soccer teams playing strong
McIntosh’s boys and girls varsity soccer teams defeated East Coweta on Friday.
The boys (5-0) won 3-1 with goals from Nate Bruhn, Aaron Hartzog and Lloyd Mahoney. The Indians scored off of a penalty kick late in the second half. They followed the win on Friday with a 6-2 win over Tucker on Saturday. The Chiefs are currently ranked first in Class AAAA and third among all teams in Georgia.
The Lady Chiefs (3-1) won 3-0 behind goals from Emily Lacombe, Laura Higgason and Gabby Seiler. The girls are currently ranked fifth in Class AAAA.
McIntosh was scheduled to host Sandy Creek yesterday and will play at Douglas County on Friday.
Whitewater’s boys and girls have been off since last week’s 2-0 wins over Northgate. Erin Emerson had both goals in the girls game. The Lady Wildcats (5-0) are ranked first in Class AAAA and third among all teams in the state. Whitewater was scheduled to play at Douglas County last night.
Starr’s Mill’s Lady Panthers (5-1), ranked third in Class AAAA and seventh in the state, topped Newnan 3-0 on Monday. Lauren Swany, Caroline Woodhead and Mandy McCalla scored goals in the win. The Lady Panthers and the Starr’s Mill boys (4-0-1), ranked second in Class AAAA and sixth in the state, were scheduled to play at Tri-Cities last night. They will host Alexander on Friday.
Sandy Creek’s boys (0-2) lost to Tri-Cities 6-1 on Friday, while the girls (4-1) won 10-0. It was the third straight win for the Lady Patriots and they outscored their opponents 27-1 in that span. Sandy Creek is due to play at Lithia Springs on Friday.
Fayette County’s boys and girls are due to host Tri-Cities next Tuesday.
Landmark Christian’s boys and girls will play at Lamar County on Friday.
Our Lady of Mercy’s boys (1-2-1) lost to Atlanta International 1-0 last Thursday. They were scheduled to play at Newnan last night and will play in a tournament at Jekyll Island this weekend. The Lady Bobcats (4-0) defeated Atlanta International 1-0. They too played at Newnan yesterday and will play at Jekyll island this weekend. The Lady Bobcats are currently ninth in Class AA/A.
