McIntosh boys, Whitewater girls at top of AAAA soccer rankings
McIntosh goalkeeper Josh Slepicka has three shutouts thus far this season.
The McIntosh varsity boys soccer team picked up a 10-0 win over Villa Rica last Thursday and Josh Ball tied the school single game scoring record with seven goals in the win.
Aaron Hartzog, Matt Mateos and Bailey Brooks also scored in the match. The Chiefs followed the win with a 3-0 win Saturday at Dalton. Ball had two goals in the win and Nate Bruhn scored off of a header. The win marked goalkeeper Josh Slepicka’s third shutout of the year.
The Chiefs are currently ranked first in Class AAAA, ahead of Starr’s Mill’s boys in second and Whitewater in ninth. The Starr’s Mill Panthers blasted Mays 10-0 last Thursday and tied Walton 2-2 on Friday. Whitewater’s boys lost to third ranked Hillgrove 2-1 on Friday.
Whitewater’s girls are currently ranked number one in Class AAAA. The Lady Wildcats topped Blessed Trinity, ranked sixth in Class AA/A, 1-0 on Friday and shutout Lovett, ranked seventh in Class AA/A, 3-0 on Monday.
Starr’s Mill’s varsity girls team, ranked second in Class AAAA, defeated St. Pius, last year’s Class AAA state champ, 3-1 in penalty kicks. Katrina Frost scored the goal in regulation. Scorers in penalty kicks for the Lady Panthers were Mandy McCalla, Frost and Stuart Pope.
McIntosh’s varsity girls, ranked fifth in Class AAAA, lost to Lassiter, ranked ninth in Class AAAAA, in penalty kicks, 4-2.
In other Class AAAA action, Fayette County’s Lady Tigers lost to Lithia Springs 1-0 last Friday, while the boys lost 2-0. Fayette County will host Villa Rica on Friday. Sandy Creek’s girls defeated Morrow 10-0 on Friday. They and the Sandy Creek boys are due to host Tri-Cities on Friday. McIntosh will host East Coweta on Friday, while Starr’s Mill hosts Lithia Springs and Whitewater hosts Northgate tonight.
In Class AA/A action, Our Lady of Mercy’s boys tied Pope 1-1 on Saturday. They and the Lady Bobcats will host Atlanta International tonight.
In junior varsity ball, McIntosh and Starr’s Mill’s junior varsity soccer teams faced off on Monday. The Lady Panthers topped the Lady Chiefs 1-0 and the boys played to a 1-1 tie.
