Several baseball teams start new season with wins

Sandy Creek’s varsity baseball team has started the season with two straight wins.

On Monday, the Patriots closed out Griffin 14-4 in five innings. They followed it with an 8-4 win over Hiram on Wednesday. Sandy Creek will take on East Coweta at 5:30 p.m. on Monday and will play at Lithia Springs next Friday at 7 p.m.

Starr’s Mill, last year’s state runner-up in Class AAAA, opened the season with a 2-1 win over East Coweta. Eli Sanchez earned the win, throwing four scoreless innings in relief of Myles Jaye, striking out three batters and giving up two hits. Angelo Medici drove in a run for the Panthers and Jon Abbey scored the winning run on a throwing error. Starr’s Mill will play at Villa Rica next Friday at 5:30 p.m.

McIntosh will play at LaGrange Saturday at 5 p.m. and at Alexander next Friday at 5:30 p.m. Fayette County plays at LaGrange Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and will host Milton Tuesday at 5:55 p.m. Whitewater will host Douglas County next Friday at 7 p.m.

Landmark Christian opened the 2010 campaign with a 10-1 win over Creekside. They will play at Creekside on Monday at 5 p.m.
Our Lady of Mercy will start their season on the road Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Mt. Zion, Carroll.
