Wins for Fayette and Creek teams, not great weekend for everyone else

There wasn’t much in between in basketball games played over the weekend. If a team won, it was a solid win and if it was a loss, it got kind of ugly.

McIntosh hosted Lithia Springs on Friday and got swept. The girls (12-8, 4-3 region), trailing for much of the game, tied the score on two free throws from Gabby Seiler with less than a second in regulation but a sloppy overtime gave the win to Lithia Springs, 56-47.

“We pride ourselves in being tougher, physically and mentally, than other teams,” said McIntosh had coach David Dowse. “They were the tougher team tonight.”

Seiler finished with 23 points, 15 of which came in the second half. Crystal Ojukwu added eight points and 10 rebounds.
The boys (11-8, 4-3 region) hung with Lithia Springs through three quarters before running out of gas and getting outscored 20-5 in the fourth quarter. Josh Ball led the Chiefs with 18 points, while Preston Hodges had 15 points, all coming in the first half.

On Saturday, the Lady Chiefs lost to Woodward Academy 44-33 at the Girls Night Out event at Starr’s Mill. Amanda Lindsey led the team with 12 points, while Laura Higgason added 11.
McIntosh will host Fayette County on Friday.

Fayette County’s boys (16-3, 6-1 region) topped Starr’s Mill (10-8, 4-4 region) 61-48 on Friday. The Tigers had a seven point lead at the half and extended the lead after a tight third quarter. Adam Smith led the Tigers with 28 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, while Larry Erves added 14 points and 10 rebounds and Anthony Harper added 11 points. The Lady Tigers (17-3, 7-0 region) won 53-19. They held the Lady Panthers (2-14, 0-7 region) to no points in the second quarter and only 10 points in the second half.

On Saturday, as the host of the second annual Girls Night Out, the Starr’s Mill girls lost to East Coweta 57-28. Sutton Goodrich led the Lady Panthers with nine points in the loss.

Starr’s Mill will play at Northgate on Friday, while Fayette travels to Peachtree City to take on McIntosh.

Sandy Creek’s boys and girls took on Alexander on Friday and won. The boys (11-7, 5-2 region) won 45-40. Emerson Williams led the Patriots with 13 points, while Zach Smith added nine points and six rebounds. The girls (7-12, 4-3 region) won 61-41 and followed it with a 65-59 loss to Rome on Saturday at Girls Night Out. Rome is currently ranked second in Class AAAA. Sandy Creek will play at Dutchtown on Saturday.

Whitewater’s girls (8-10, 1-5 region) met Brookwood on Saturday at Girls Night Out and lost 63-28. Whitewater will host Tri-Cities on Friday and will play at Banneker on Saturday.

Landmark Christian’s boys and girls were swept by Providence Christian on Saturday. The boys lost 56-20 and the girls lost 61-20. On Monday, the Lady War Eagles lost to Excel Christian 50-36. Santricia Hight had 11 points in the loss, while Nicole Fox added eight. Sarah Mathis contributed 10 rebounds. Landmark will play at Our Lady of Mercy on Friday.

Our Lady of Mercy’s boys and girls lost to Whitefield Academy on Friday. The boys lost 66-24 and the girls lost 45-29.
