Whitewater boys, Starr's Mill girls win county titles

The Whitewater boys won the county swim meet last Friday for the first time in the school’s history.

Junior Alex Menke broke a county record in the 500 Free with a time of 4:40.04. Menke also won the 200 Free and was a member of the 400 Free relay team (Menke, Alex Todd, Jaron Beckwith and Ben Starkey) and 200 Medley relay team (Menke, Beckwith, Patrick Loeffler, Todd), both of which finished first. Other first place finishers for the Wildcats were Beckwith in the 200 IM and the 100 Free. Whitewater’s girls placed third.

Starr’s Mill’s girls won the county championship for the 10th year in a row. First place finishers for the Lady Panthers were the 200 yard medley relay team of Christina Gallucci, Morgan Presley, Sydney Cartwright and Kristen Bates, the 200 Freestyle relay team of Presley, Courtney Harris, Kiersten Mossburg and Bates, Gallucci in the 200 Free, Bates in the 50 Free and the 100 Free, Presley in the 100 Butterfly and Cartwright in the 500 Free.

On the boys side, Starr’s Mill’s David Wright took first in the 50 Free and the 200 Freestyle relay team of Eric Presley, Robert Maguire, James Haycraft and Wright, set a county record. The Panthers placed second.

On the girls side, McIntosh’s Lady Chiefs placed second. Ariana Berg took first in the 200 IM and set a county record in the 100 Breast, Missy Beall placed first in the 100 Back and the 400 Freestyle relay team of Erika Barrett, Berg, Anna Beard and Beall placed first as well. For the McIntosh boys, who finished third, Jack Beall took first in the 100 Butterfly and the 100 Back and Jim Roddenberry was first in the 100 Breast.

Rounding out the top six on the girls side were Fayette County in fourth place, Our Lady of Mercy in fifth and Sandy Creek in sixth. On the boys side, Fayette County also placed fourth followed by Our Lady of Mercy and Sandy Creek.
