Region 5-AAAA football team selected

Coaches from Region 5-AAAA and members of the media met on Thursday, Dec. 10 to select the 2009 All-Region Football team.

Sandy Creek, in the Class AAAA state final, was well represented with both the offensive and defensive players of the year in Rajion Neal and Isaiah Johnson respectively. Others getting votes for defensive player of the Year were Banneker’s Demetrice McNeal (2) and Tri-Cities Zachary Hodges (1).

Members of the first team offense were:

Offensive line - Tim Wynn, Mays; Josh Talley, Villa Rica; Clarence Swain, Fayette County, Alex Barr, Starr’s Mill and Charlie Zemko, Sandy Creek.

Tight end - Justin Smith, Starr’s Mill

Wide Receiver - Devon Hughes, Sandy Creek; Jarrett Davis, Sandy Creek; Demarco McNeal, Banneker

Quarterback - Ronnie Bell, Sandy Creek

Running back - Rajion Neal, Sandy Creek

Fullback - Zach Laskey, Starr’s Mill

Members of the first team defense were:
Defensive line - DeAngelo Ashley, Alexander; Jeremy Springer, Villa Rica and Joe Touchet, Lithia Springs

Defensive end - Lacy Coleman, Sandy Creek and Zachary Hodges, Tri-Cities

Linebacker - Mike Hilton, Sandy Creek; Mike Spaulding, Sandy Creek; Clinard Stokes, Sandy Creek and Kossi Komlassin, Banneker

Defensive back - Isaiah Johnson, Sandy Creek; Cedric Byrd, Sandy Creek; Demetrice McNeal, Banneker and Demarco McNeal, Banneker

Punter - Zach Lopez, Sandy Creek

Kicker - Dylan Johnson, Whitewater

Punt/kick returns - Sharad Drayton, Villa Rica

Long snapper - Andrew Dean, Whitewater

The second team offensive line was Andrew Dean, Whitewater; Kristian Edwards, Lithia Springs; Keonte Henderson, Mays, Cornelius Harper, Tri-Cities and Greg Gibson, Tri-Cities.
Honorable mentions to the offensive line were: Greg Eason, Mays; Kristofer Curtis, Fayette County; Ryan Weigand, Starr’s Mill; Kyle Petty, Starr’s Mill and Will Adams, Sandy Creek.

The second team tight end was Ryan Edwards of Mays, while Lance Pugh of Sandy Creek was honorable mention.

The second team wide receivers were Shawn Kithcens of Banneker, Josh Hines of Tri-Cities and Acey Palmer of Mays. Honorable mentions at wide receiver were Eric Lauderdale, Fayette County; Alex Chisum, Sandy Creek and Jeffrey Greene, Starr’s Mill.

The second team quarterback was Homer Causey of Mays, while Tres Houston of Banneker received the honorable mention.

The second team running back was Josh Clemons of Whitewater, while honorable mention went to Torrie Brown of Mays.

The second team fullback was Delontae Amey of Banneker, while his teammate, Derrick Williams received honorable mention.

On defense, the second team defensive line featured McIntosh’s Sean Carney, Sandy Creek’s Gavin Rocker and Banneker’s Marquise Armstrong. Receiving honorable mentions were Fayette County’s Martinek Adamson, Whitewater’s Andrew Dean and Starr’s Mill’s Derek Brown.

Second team defensive ends were Douglas County’s Cory Brown and Alexander’s Andrew Evans, while Sandy Creek’s Jamal Ware, Starr’s Mill’s Ufomba Kamalu and Banneker’s Toby Johnson received honorable mentions.

Second team linebackers were: Andre Carter, Alexander; Andrew Graham, McIntosh; Jonathan Williams, Banneker and Blake Jaurigue, Whitewater. Honorable mentions were: Brian Bureau, Starr’s Mill; Veshon Revils, Douglas County; Mario Turner, Mays and Jonathan Seldon, Fayette County.

Second team defensive backs were: Bruce Dukes, Sandy Creek; Chaz Elder, Banneker; Sean Rowe, Sandy Creek and Trenton Edwards, Starr’s Mill. Honorable mentions were: Tres Houston, Banneker; Nick Morrow, McIntosh; Joe Gallegos, Alexander and Jeffrey Ashley, Whitewater.

The second team punter was McIntosh’s Matt Mateos, while the honorable mention went to Starr’s Mill’s Derrick Williams.

The second team kicker was Sandy Creek’s Zach Lopez, while Tri-Cities Alejandro Godinez received the honorable mention.

The second team punt/kick returner was Tracen Franklin of Dougas County and the honorable mention went to Dieonte Griffith of Lithia Springs.
