Weekend wins for McIntosh, Landmark and Sandy Creek boys

Landmark’s girls basketball team defeated Yeshiva 27-25 on Saturday. Santricia Hight (17 points) hit a 15-footer with 1.7 seconds left to give Landmark the win. Michal Holby added six points.

“We’ve been struggling with two starters out due to injury,” said head coach Brett Nastasi. “The girls really needed this win tonight.”

Landmark had lost to Tallulah Falls the night before 56-26. Hight had 12 points in the loss.

The Landmark boys (4-2) beat Tallulah Falls 72-35 and defeated Yeshiva 67-32. On Monday night, they beat Galloway 67-48, while the girls lost 38-24. The boys and girls will play at Holy Innocents on Saturday, Dec. 19.

Sandy Creek’s boys (2-3) defeated Columbus 57-48 behind Emerson Williams’ 21 points and 10 rebounds and 14 points from Asa Caruthers. The Lady Patriots (0-5) lost to Columbus 40-37. Because Sandy Creek has won the right to compete in the Georgia High School 2009 Class AAAA Football State Playoffs, the basketball games originally scheduled for this Friday at Lithia Springs High School will be rescheduled.

McIntosh’s Lady Chiefs (5-2) defeated Starr’s Mill (2-6) 61-16 last Friday. Gabby Seiler led McIntosh with 23 points and six steals, while Laura Higgason added 17 points and Evelyn Keysar added 10 points and four steals.

The boys (3-5) also defeated Starr’s Mill (3-3), winning 47-42. It was the second straight win for the Chiefs. McIntosh got 14 points and eight rebounds from Chris Longoria, while Preston Hodge had 11 points. McIntosh head coach Jason Eisele was very pleased with his team’s defensive effort. The Chiefs outrebounded the Panthers and had 22 steals in the win. Starr’s Mill was led in scoring by Mike Voso with 14 points, while Haydn Barnes added eight points and Josh Ajayi had five.

McIntosh will play at Whitewater on Saturday with the girls game starting at 6 p.m. Starr’s Mill will play at Mays on Friday and will host Alexander on Saturday.

Our Lady of Mercy hosted Whitewater last night after the paper went to press. They will host Holy Innocents on Friday and will play at Walker on Saturday.

Fayette County’s boys and girls basketball teams, off last weekend, will host Alexander on Friday and will play at Villa Rica on Saturday.
