Ranked volleyball teams seek wins to cement rankings

Local schools are all over the recent rankings in the latest PrepCounty.com GACA Coaches poll for volleyball.

Sandy Creek is ranked first in Class AAAA, followed by Whitewater in third, Northgate in fourth and Starr’s Mill in fifth. Landmark Christian is seventh in Class A/AA.

Sandy Creek (22-4) topped Whitewater in three games on Tuesday, 26-28, 25-18, 25-19 and beat Tri-Cities 25-6, 25-8. Both Sandy Creek and Whitewater will play in the Lovett Block Party this weekend.

Starr’s Mill lost to Northgate 26-24, 26-24 on Tuesday but got a win over Fayette County in the other match of the night. The Lady Panthers will face off against McIntosh at Tri-Cities next Tuesday.

McIntosh defeated Mays (25-8, 25-9) and Banneker (25-10, 25-12) on Tuesday and beat Decatur but lost to Columbus on Thursday.
Landmark Christian’s next match will be next Tuesday against Pope and St. Pius X at St. Pius.

Our Lady of Mercy has won four games in a row, knocking of Southwest Atlanta Christian (25-8, 25-12) and Greenforest Christian (25-4, 25-2) on Tuesday and Pace Academy (25-12, 25-23) and Atlanta International (25-17, 25-21) on Thursday. They will host ELCA and Henry County on Tuesday.
