Baseball surprise

By John Munford - Posted on 11 September 2009

Baseball sure has a way of surprising you.

John Smoltz started the season as a Red Sock but flamed out. Now he's a Cardinal and is pitchin' lights-out.

And I, as a Cardinals and Braves fan, can't be more pleased. Neither can Smoltzie. He jumped from 1 playoff team to another and seems to have righted his ship.

While I am disappointed my adopted Braves appear to be destined for playoff-watching... it's cool to know Smoltzie is still making it happen for the team I grew up with.

Meanwhile we'll find out tomorrow how my son's flag football team does in game 1. This is new to us, and I'm helping coach. Should be very interesting.

I never thought I would see him on a football field but I can stomach flag football. He's too scrawny to play tackle, at least for now. (And too young; how can you send a 1st or 2nd grader into the melee? Asking for trouble!)

We're certain to have a blast; I'm told this young age group is a complete riot! Just have to hope the weather holds up.

Wish us luck!
