Sandy Creek takes second in Fayette Sweet 16 volleyball tournament

Sandy Creek finished in second place in the first Fayette sweet 16 volleyball tournament losing to Northview in the final 20-25 and 20-25.

Along the way the Lady Patriots defeated Our Lady of Mercy 25-10, 25-17, Glynn Academy 25-17 and 25-22, Sequoyah 25-21 and 25-19, Hoover 25-15 and 25-13 and Lassiter 29-27 and 25-20.  Kill leaders were Chanelle Smith with 45, Danielle Smith 33, Kalah Jones 26, Allie Davenport 11 and Ria Ridley with 10.  Allie Davenport led the team with 11 aces, Chanelle had 6, Danielle 6 and Jones and Samantha Bryan each had 5.  Bryan led the team with 55 assists followed by Chanelle with 49.  Akeila Lain led the team with 5.5 blocks, Danielle 4.5, Chanelle 4 and Davenport 3.5  Estefania Diaz led the team with 38 digs, Danielle had 26 Chanelle 18 and Bryan had 15. Brea Sherman 11 and Allie MacFall each had 10 .
 
“It was an exceptional performance for the girls as they played their best when they needed to,” said head coach Paul Collins. “The loss to Northview was our second to them this year and they are an excellent team.  We have improved a little in each match and are still working on our line-up.  Right now we are 16-3.”

Sandy Creek’s next matches are Saturday at the Columbus playday. 

Whitewater had wins over East Coweta 25-11 and 25-16, Chamblee 25-19 and 25-21 and McIntosh 25-14 and 25-18 but lost to Lassiter 25-18 and 25-22 and Northview 25-13 and 25-16.
McIntosh had wins against Lovejoy 25-13 and 25-16, Union Grove 25-23 and 25-15 and Hoover, Ala. 26-24, 25-27, 15-13 before falling to Whitewater.

Our Lady of Mercy, bitten by the injury big and some ill players, went 0-4 with losses to Glynn Academy 21-25, 20-25, Sequoyah 23-25, 25-12, 5-15, Sandy Creek and Chamblee 16-25, 20-25.

Senior middle hitter Sam Morris had 22 kills for the lady Bobcats, while freshman setter Mary Katherine Schmitz had 44 assits and 21 digs and senior libero Kalie Ludvigsen had 44 digs.
