Whitewater and Sandy Creek pick up region wins
It seems like every week a number of the area’s top softball teams square off. This week saw Fayette County take on Sandy Creek, Starr’s Mill meet up with Northgate and McIntosh and Whitewater face off.
Fayette County followed a 17-0 win over Langston Hughes with a 16-0 loss to Sandy Creek. The Lady Tigers got impressive pitching performances against Langston Hughes from Annisah Smith and Kenyah Smith. Fayette County’s top pitcher had to leave school due to a fever and both girls, neither of whom had pitched all year, performed well.
In Sandy Creek’s win over the Lady Tigers, head coach Lisa Pearce stated that Haley Williams pitched a great game, Emily Diaz laid down a great bunt and Mallory Muncher, Awbry Folds and Andrea Dalton all had great games.
Whitewater defeated McIntosh 14-0. Kristy Cook allowed one hit and struck out six in the win for the Lady Wildcats, while Whitener went 3-for-3 and McKenzie Woody and Kaitlyn Johnson both went 2-for-3. Mackenzie Toler had four RBIs in the win. McIntosh got hits from Emily Pauley, Linsey Hearn and Laurel Clarke.
Northgate topped Starr’s Mill 2-0 on Wednesday and lost to Whitewater 4-1 on Thursday. The Lady Wildcats got RBIs from Johnson, Mckenzie Mosley and Hayden Bartlett. Whitney Toler earned the win.
McIntosh defeated Langston Hughes 15-0 on Thursday. Emily Pauley and Linsey Hearn each drove in two runs, while Aimee McKibbin had two hits and an RBI. Sophomore Rachel Pullias earned the win with nine strikeouts and no hits.
