Local swimmers in 'the zone'

Three members of the Southern Crescent Swim Team (SCAT) were chosen along with other top swimmers from the state of Georgia to represent our state in the 2009 Southern Zone Swimming Competition held in Orlando, Florida from Tuesday, July 28-Saturday, Aug. 1.

The state of Georgia competed against 15 teams from other states in the Southeastern Zone.  These three swimmers are Fayette County students and also swim on Fayette County swim teams along with their club team throughout the year.  Alex Menke (16) placed 3rd in the 1500 free and 6th in the 200 fly; Ari Berg (16) placed 3rd in the 200 breastroke and 4th in the 100 breastroke; Alex Harmon (18) placed 4th in the 1500 free and 7th in the 400 IM.  Georgia placed 4th overall.  Menke and Berg are rising juniors in Fayette County Schools and Harmon is attending Duke where he will continue his swimming. This is another example of the high calliber swimmers Southern Crescent Swim Team is producing.
