SCAT swims well at state, boys win again, girls place third
Southern Crescent Aquatic Team had 24 swimmers qualify and attend the Georgia Swimming Senior State Meet in Athens, Ga. SCAT team members competing were Kristen Bates, Ari Berg, Kristen Bohrer, Jack Beall, Missy Beall, Tony Beall, Mark Buck, Bailey Cartwright, Sydney Cartwright, Noah Copeland, Sydney Currenti, Keaton Hannon, Alex Harmon, Katie Haycraft, David Menchinger, Alex Menke, Chris Moroz, Kiersten Mossburg, Adam Otaki, Zach Payne, Morgan Presley, Jim Roddenbery, Lauren Scott, Alec Vazquez and Jamie Wright.
SCAT finished third overall in the state in the Division 2 category. The boys finished first for the second year in a row and the girls were third. The men’s 800 free relay placed first with swimmers Copeland, Menke, Menchinger and Harmon. Copeland was also the winner of the men’s 100 meter freestyle.
The swimmers qualified for the Georgia Swimming Zone Team. They were Berg, Harmon and Menke.
SCAT swimmers who qualified for the nightly “A” finals (top eight) were Berg: 200 Breaststroke; Scott, Copeland and Otaki: 50 Butterfly; Scott, Copeland and Otaki: 100 Butterfly; Harmon: 400 Individual Medley; Scott, Menchinger and Copeland: 50 Backstroke; Menke: 200 Butterfly; Scott & Copeland: 50 Freestyle; Berg, Morgan Presley, Bates, Otaki: 50 Breaststroke; Menchinger: 200 Backstroke; and Menke: 800 Freestyle.
Southern Crescent is taking a little time off after this championship meet. They will return to the water on Aug. 10. Swimmers interested in participating in the program should look at the website: www.scatswimming.org for more information.
