Wojcik continues his assault in California

By Michael Boylan - Posted on 24 July 2009

Derek Wojcik, 17, a rising senior at Sandy Creek High School, traveled across the country to San Francisco Calif. to compete at the U.S.J.F National Judo tournament. After capturing the Bronze medal at the Presidents Cup, Wojcik continued his assault by capturing a silver medal at the J.F nationals in the open division.

Wojcik is no stranger to the podium as he placed gold or silver in the three national tournaments he traveled to last year.
“Derek is now fighting in a 17-20 group and the senior group where there is no age limit. He is now fighting the best of the best all the time, and he is the baby out there being only 17 years old,” said Coach and Dad Sensei Dave Wojcik.

Although the youngest out there, he sure does not lack experience as he started his Jujitsu and Judo career at age 3.
Wojcik has several national placings and national championships in both Judo and Wrestling.

According to Derek’s coach, Derek has upcoming plans to compete at the Junior Olympics and U.S Open, which will be held the last two weekends of July. If Wojcik can win the Junior Olympics he will have a shot at the world junior team and games. Wojcik captured silver last year at the Junior Olympics.
