Fayetteville's Ashley Holcombe makes USA women's softball team
Fayetteville’s Ashley Holcombe was recently named to the roster of the 2009 USA Softball women’s national team. Holcombe, R, is pictured with Alabama and USA women's national team teammate Brittany Rogers and Alabama coach Patrick Murphy. Murphy will also serve as an assistant coach for the USA Softball Pan American qualifier team.
Holcombe will participate as member of the 2009 USA Softball Pan American qualifier team at the Pan American Qualifier in Maracay, Venezuela on July 31-August 9.
Holcombe, a graduate of Fayette County High School, played in 62 games and made 60 starts as the University of Alabama’s catcher in 2009, en route to being named an ESPN.com All-American. The Fayetteville, Ga., native was named to the SEC All-Defensive team and to the SEC All-Tournament team. Holcombe led the Southeastern Conference by an impressive margin with 10 pickoffs from behind the plate. She batted .296 in her senior season with eight home runs and 50 RBI.
Fans can see Holcombe in the KFC World Cup of Softball in Oklahoma City. The games will be televised on ESPN with the event slated for July 16-20.
