Starr's Mill and Landmark make baseball quarterfinals

Starr’s Mill’s varsity baseball team (21-7) swept Winder-Barrow on Wednesday to advance to the Class AAAA quarterfinals. The Panthers won the first game 5-2 and took the second game 4-1.

Danny Beadling threw a complete game, giving up six hits and striking out seven. Beadling also went 3-for-4 at the plate. Jesse Baker added three hits and Michael Jeanes had two hits. Ken Jackson pitched six innings in the second game. He gave up five hits and struck out 10 batters. Drew Johnson pitches a scoreless seventh. The Panthers trailed 1-0 through five innings. They tied it in the sixth and Baker hit a two run home run in the seventh, followed by a Kevin Koziol RBI. David Norman had three hits in the win and Johnson added two.

The Panthers will meet Wayne County on Tuesday. That series went to a third game as Alcovy lost game one 10-0 and won game two 7-3. The Yellow Jackets (23-8) won the final game 11-1. Wayne County went 7-3 over their last 10 games. Wayne County has played three more games than the Panthers. They have scored more runs (277-213) and allowed more (123-107).

In Class A, Landmark Christian School (20-8-1) split their doubleheader with Providence Christian on Wednesday. The War Eagles won the first game 5-3 but fell in the second game 6-1. In the deciding game on Thursday, the War Eagles won 11-6. Landmark faces Pacelli next Tuesday in a rematch of last year’s state final. Pacelli has given up a total of three runs in four state playoff games, while scoring 43.
