Nobody's perfect - McIntosh boys fall in final to Marist

The McIntosh Chiefs entered the state final with a perfect record and the top ranking in Class AAAA, the state and the nation. They played all of their state playoff games at home and had a sizable crowd behind them, including students forming a pep band.

Marist shocked the local soccer world with a 2-1 win.

The War Eagles had a goal called back three minutes in to the first half and dominated much of the play in the first 20 minutes of the game. McIntosh had some opportunities as the half wore on but with 18 seconds left Marist scored off of a kick.

Early in the second half, Nathan Bruhn headed in a Josh Ball throw and tied the game. Although McIntosh would have more opportunities, Marist scored the winning goal with just over 20 minutes remaining. McIntosh put on a ton of pressure but couldn't tie the game.

"We had lots of chances but it just wasn't meant to be," said head coach Bunky Colvin. "Twenty-two wins is remarkable and I'm proud of what this team accomplished."
