Starr's Mill takes game one of region playoff with Mays, rest of games today

The region playoffs for teams in 5-AAAA start today, although the Starr's Mill/Mays series started a day early.

The Panthers won game one behind a complete game one hitter from Ken Jackson. Jackson had 11 strikeouts in the win. Paul Patterson and Kevin Koziol both hit home runs in game. Game 2 is today at 5:30 p.m. at Starr's Mill.

Sandy Creek Patriots (18-5) @ Villa Rica Wildcats (14-9), Wednesday, 4 p.m.

Sandy Creek is smoking hot. They have won seven in a row and topped Northgate 8-1 in the regular season finale. They have outscored their opponents 75-25 in that span. The Patriots have the advantage in numbers, scoring 220 runs to Villa Rica’s 143 and allowing 102 to the Wildcats 133.

Villa Rica has gone 2-4 over their last six games. They lost all of their games against opponents from 5-A AAAA. The Wildcats lost their only meeting against the Patriots this year 15-4 in five innings.

Whitewater Wildcats (15-6) @ Alexander Cougars (18-5), 4 p.m.
After spring break, the Wildcats went 3-2 with wins over Mays, McIntosh and Lithia Springs and losses to Sandy Creek and Starr’s Mill. Whitewater went 5-1 against opponents from 5-B AAAA. Their one loss was to Alexander (6-5) on March 25.

Alexander has won nine games in a row since a tournament loss to a team from Pennsylvania. That loss snapped a five game winning streak. Alexander lost one region game all year - 10-3 to Villa Rica on March 9. They went 4-2 against teams from 5-A AAAA.

In other baseball action,
Landmark Christian (14-6-1) snapped a two game losing streak with a 14-6 win over Whitefield Academy on Friday and a 13-3 win over North Cobb Christian on Monday. Both wins were region wins and place Landmark’s region record at 10-2, tied with Holy Innocents for the top spot in the region. The War Eagles played at Our Lady of Mercy last night after the paper went to press and will host Mt. Paran today in their final region game of the season. Landmark’s final game of the regular season is Friday at Chapel Hill.

Our Lady of Mercy picked up a region win last Thursday, defeating Walker 13-10. They close out their season with a home game against Mt. Paran tomorrow at 4:30 p.m.
