Baseball teams seeking region wins

Sandy Creek’s varsity baseball team (14-5) came back from spring break and picked up wins against opponents in and out of their sub-region.

On Wednesday, the Patriots defeated Banneker from 5B-AAAA 21-0 in four innings. On Thursday, they completed the season sweep of Whitewater with a 7-4 win.

Against Banneker, Chase Blunt threw a no-hitter and struck out 10 Trojan batters, while Chris Triplett hit two home runs and Alex Green and Arthur Owens each hit one. Kris Bremer was 2-for-2 with five RBIs in the win.

In the Whitewater game, Sandy Creek clinched a spot in the sub-region play-in series for the state playoffs. Aaron Warren earned the win and Christian Gaston got the save. Russell Bonner had three RBIs in the win, while Braxton Lane added two and Chris Triplett and TJ Treat each added one. Andrew Toles had two hits on the night.

Sandy Creek hosted McIntosh last night and will host Landmark Christian on Monday at 5:30 p.m.

McIntosh (8-8) snapped a four game losing streak with an 8-2 win over Villa Rica on Wednesday. The Chiefs will host Whitewater on Monday at 5:30 p.m.

Prior to Thursday’s loss to Sandy Creek, Whitewater (13-5) defeated Mays 12-1 in six innings. The Wildcats played at Starr’s Mill last night after the paper went to press.
Starr’s Mill (12-6) has lost three games in a row. They came back from spring break’s tournament in South Carolina and lost 8-7 to Lithia Springs on Wednesday and 9-0 to Northgate, the region leaders, on Thursday. The Panthers will host Fayette County on Monday at 5:30 p.m.

Fayette County (6-9) lost to Alexander 5-3 on Wednesday. The Tigers hosted Northgate last night.

In Class A, Landmark Christian’s (11-4-1) first game back from the break was a 15-3 loss to Walker. The War Eagles played at Pace Academy last night.
