McIntosh tennis teams start season with wins

The tennis season started for McIntosh Valentine’s Day weekend.

The boys and girls played in the Wheeler Invitational and the boys tied for third place, while the girls went 1-2 with their win coming against Blessed Trinity. The boys made the semifinals but lost to Etowah. In the consolation round, the Chiefs defeated Blessed Trinity.

In the Peachtree City Invitational at the Peachtree City Tennis Center, the boys won it all defeating Union Grove, Roswell and Starr’s Mill. Austin Emmet won singles matches against all three opponents, while Jake Koonce got wins against Univon Grove and Starr’s Mill, Colin Andrews won against Union Grove and Matt Thompson got a win against Roswell. In doubles play, Thompson and Austin Tilton defeated Union Grove, Tilton and Wes Roberts beat Roswell and Starr’s Mill and Femi Brinson and Stewart Weisheit wo against Union Grove, while Weisheit and Billy Pemu defeated Roswell.

This week, the Chiefs and Lady Chiefs defeated Newnan. Mary Beth Black and Charlotte Kemp got singles wins for the girls, while Brinson, Emmet and Eric Lien got singles wins for the boys. Doubles winners for the Lady Chiefs were Sofia Koval and Rachel White, while Koonce and Geoffrey Gilbert and Andrews and Jamie Crawford were doubles winners for the boys.

Next Thursday, McIntosh will meet Fayette County.
