Fayette boys and girls, Newnan boys play for region titles tonight
Douglas County’s Lady Tigers almost shocked the world on Friday in the region 5-AAAA tournament but undefeated Fayette County emerged victorious with a half court shot at the buzzer to win 37-34. Anma Onyeuku led the team with 18 points, while Tessah Holt, who hit the final shot, finished with 11.
The Lady Tigers will face Mays at 7 p.m. tonight at Lithia Springs High School for the region title. Mays defeated Sandy Creek 56-52 on Friday.
Fayette County’s boys defeated McIntosh 96-61 on Friday. Noel Johnson had 17 points for the Tigers, while Malcolm Brogdon added 15. Jeremy Lampkin led the Chiefs with 16.
Lithia Springs outlasted Sandy Creek 67-66. Malcolm Jackson led the Patriots with 21 points.
Fayette County will take on Lithia Springs today at 8:30 p.m. at Lithia Springs for the region championship.
In the region 4-AAAAA tournament, East Coweta’s Lady Indians lost to Mundy’s Mill 65-45. Tyesha McKenzie led the team with 14 points in the loss.
Newnan’s boys made the region final by defeating Creekside 55-42 behind 16 points from Antawn Johnson. They will meet Westlake tonight at Westlake in the region final.
In the region 5-A tournament Our Lady of Mercy’s boys fell to Whitefield Academy 60-45.
