State bound: several teams punch tickets for playoffs

Several girls basketball teams punched their tickets for the state tournament on Wednesday night.
The East Coweta Lady Indians defeated Chapel Hill 68-48 behind 18 points from Angelica Zackery. The win puts them in the region 4-AAAAA semi-finals against Mundy’s Mill at 4 p.m. on Friday. The game will be played at Westlake High School.
In region 5-AAAA, Fayette County and Sandy Creek advanced while Northgate lost. The Lady Vikings lost to Mays 56-45. Brianna Banks led Northgate with 16 points.
Fayette County blasted Alexander 63-37 after starting with a 22-3 first quarter. Sandy Creek outlasted Banneker 52-50 as Kenneshia Rich scored 18 points. Fayette County will face Douglas County at 4 p.m. on Friday and Sandy Creek will face Mays at 7 p.m. on Friday. The winners of those games will meet at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Lithia Springs High School.
In region 5-A, Our Lady of Mercy’s Lady Bobcats ended their season with a 58-28 loss to Holy Innocents.
