Big bat off the market

By John Munford - Posted on 23 December 2008

So you've probably heard. Mark Texieira has landed with the Yankees for an obscene amount of money.

You also probably heard the yelps of joy in Peachtree City around 4:30 p.m. today when my buddy Kevin found out the news. Kevin bleeds pinstripes and this development no doubt has him scheming how he can check out the new Yanks in person, what with Sabathia and Burnett anchoring the rotation.

As you can imagine Michael B. isn't taking this as well. It was long rumored the Red Sox were the suitor of choice until the Yankees swooped in at the last minute. But it's not like the Sox are lacking for offense, even without Manny.

Meanwhile my Braves and Cardinals are either getting dissed or just not in the market at all, which is somewhat depressing. Then again, as Mike said, the Phillies won it all this year so who knows what will happen in '09?
