Sun City Peachtree officially a Canongate golf club

Canongate Golf Clubs is pleased to announce the acquisition of Sun City Peachtree, located just 35 miles south of Atlanta in Griffin.

Sun City Peachtree will join the already impressive group of Canongate Clubs off I-75 South including Heron Bay, Georgia National, River Forest and Healy Point. The course is designed by Gary Stephenson, a Texas architect part of the Phil Mickelson design team. Stephenson has worked on well known projects such as Whisper Rock Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona; Frisco Lakes Golf Club in Frisco, Texas and Wildhorse Golf Club in Denton, Texas. He has collaborated with golf greats Byron Nelson, Steve Jones, and David Graham on past projects.

The Sun City Peachtree community is an active adult community by Del Webb, a member of the Pulte Homes family. Stephenson designed the course to be a pleasurable playing experience, with few forced carries and generous landing areas off elevated tee boxes. Every hole at Sun City Peachtree has its own personality, but the ninth hole showcases a beautiful waterfall, marking it as the signature hole for the property. With five tee placements, golfers can enjoy the layout whether they are a fierce competitor or a relative newcomer to golf. Sun City Peachtree also offers PGA certified instruction for golfers of all skill levels as well as an expansive practice area complete with two putting greens.

Sun City Peachtree will make the twentieth property for the Canongate portfolio in Atlanta. According to Canongate President and CEO Joe Guerra, “We are excited about Sun City Peachtree and our relationship with Del Webb and Pulte Homes. Even more exciting is what the addition of this fantastic venue means for our members on the south side of Atlanta. Members are sending in rave reviews on the layout and condition of the golf course, making it a great fit with our other private clubs off of 75 South.” Sun City Peachtree opened for Canongate member play in mid-September and the course is already a member favorite among Canongate Clubs. With the property being new, the staff is operating out of a temporary clubhouse, with an expected opening of the permanent clubhouse in late March of 2009. The clubhouse design allows for a fully stocked golf shop, locker rooms for men and women, and generous dining areas both indoor and outdoor which will be the focal point for social gatherings and club events.
Canongate Golf Clubs consists of 19 private clubs and 23 fantastic courses in metro Atlanta and one in the Hilton Head area. In 2007, Canongate expanded to Texas, currently owning and operating seven courses in Houston, including Woodlands Country Club, host site of the 2008 Champions Tour Administaff Small Business Classic.
