Chiefs run away with state title in cross country
McIntosh's boys delivered a 1-2 punch in many cross country meets this season. In the state meet last weekend, it was good enough for a state title.
The Georgia High School State Meet was held on Saturday, November 10, in Carrollton, Georgia. This was the last race of the year for all schools that had advanced this far including several Fayette County Schools. Sandy Creek ran in the 4-A race, while McIntosh, Starr’s Mill, and Whitewater ran in the 5-A division.
McIntosh’s boys placed first overall in 5-A led by the first and second place finishers overall Brad Hort (16:22, 1st) and Sidney Speir (16:33, 2). They were followed by Artie McCarty, 17:17, 11; Taylor Huntley, 17:24, 15 and Andrew Jaeger, 17:57, 31. It was the Chiefs’ second state title in cross country. Their first came in 1996.
Starr’s Mill finished in fifth place in the 5-A boys race. Their top five runners were: James Adams, 17:40, 21; Josh Warren, 18:06, 38; Daniel Sims, 18:08, 41; Alex Casado, 18:29, 59 and Ryan Phillips, 18:38, 72.
On the girls side of the 5-A championship, McIntosh placed fourth followed by Whitewater in seventh and Star’s Mill in 10th.
The top runners for McIntosh were: Cassidy Williams, 20:41, 9; Alyssa LeClaire, 21:18, 23; Taylor Snell, 21:43, 39; Gabrielle Seiler, 21:45, 40; and Melanie Hamilt, 21:54, 46.
Whitewater’s top runners were: Mackenzie Nail, 21:22, 26; Emma Brodzik, 21:26, 29; Alana Hood, 21:28, 30; Kyah Eglitis, 21:30,32 and Catherine Kuras, 23:07, 103
The top runners for Starr’s Mill were: Emily Sims, 21:43, 38; Nicole Chrzanowski, 22:22, 66; Sophie Handel, 22:23, 67; Sarah Phinney, 22:29, 71 and Tori Nails, 22:32, 73.
The Sandy Creek boys placed 8th in the 4-A race. Their top runners were: Rex Willis, 18:03, 34; Devin Hamill, 18:09, 38; Dominick Chontos, 18:20, 44; Ryan Hamill, 18:51, 87 and Connor Dial, 18:52, 91.
