Whitewater softball makes it to Elite Eight
The Whitewater Lady Wildcats varsity softball team traveled to Jones County on Wednesday and swept the Lady greyhounds. The series win propels Whitewater to the Elite Eight in Columbus next Thursday.
Whitewater won game one 3-0. Mackenzie Toler pitched a complete game one-hitter, striking out seven batters. She was 2-for-2 at the plate with a three run home run in the third inning. Katie Cannington, Gabby Hunt and Kim Perkins each had one hit. The Lady Cats won game two 5-1. Kylee Southers was 3-for-4 from the plate with a triple and a run driven in. Cannington, Becca Stallings and Brielle Grubbs each had two hits in the victory, while Hunt and Perkins each chipped in a hit. Toler pitched another complete game, striking out four batters. Toler was on base every time she came to bat. She was walked six times and hit by a pitch twice.
Whitewater (24-10-1) meets Allatoona (26-9) at 4:15 p.m. in Columbus on Thursday. Allatoona has won nine games in a row and has posted three shutouts in that span.
