Second round matches set for soccer teams
Seven local boys soccer teams will continue the state playoffs next Tuesday.
In AAAAA, East Coweta (16-3), ranked third in Class AAAAA, beat Colquitt County 10-0 on Tuesday and now will host Mill Creek (3-1 winners over Central Gwinnett) this coming Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Mill Creek is 14-4. With a win, the Indians would host the winner of Centennial and Harrison next Friday.
Newnan (12-4) beat Lowndes 3-1 in the opening round of the AAAAA playoffs and advances to face region 8-AAAAA champion Brookwood (15-3), ranked fifth, on the road Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. If Newnan pulls off the upset, they would play at winner of Milton and North Cobb on Friday.
In AAAA, the McIntosh boys (16-2-1), ranked second in Class AAAA, beat Riverdale 10-0 on Tuesday and will host Lakeside, DeKalb, which beat Alexander 3-1, this Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. If the Chiefs win, they will likely play at Lambert on Friday unless Richmond Hill pulls the upset.
Starr’s Mill (15-2-2), ranked third in AAAA, knocked out Jonesboro with a 10-0 win on Tuesday. They will play at seventh ranked Kell, region champions of region 5-AAAA, on Tuesday. If the Panthers win, they will likely be on the road at Houston County on Friday unless NW Whitfield can upset them.
Sandy Creek (13-2) beat Thomson 3-1 in the first round of the AAA playoffs. On Tuesday they host sixth ranked Columbus (14-2-1). If the Patriots win, they will host the winner of Gainesville and Howard on Friday.
Landmark Christian (10-5) beat Lakeview Academy 3-0 and advanced to a game at Savannah Christian on Tuesday. If the War Eagles win, they would meet the winner of Pace Academy and Providence Christian on the road.
Our of Lady of Mercy (15-2), ranked eighth in Class A, hosts Calvary Day on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. They will meet the winner of Aquinas and (Wesleyan/Winder) on Friday.
The girls still playing in the playoffs play their second round games on Wednesday.
East Coweta’s girls (15-4) handed Valdosta a 6-0 loss in the first round of the AAAAA playoffs. The Lady Indians will now host North Gwinnett on Wednesday and will host the winner of Milton and Hillgrove on Saturday with a win.
Newnan (13-3-2) beat Colquitt County 10-0 and got a bounce of good luck when Mill Creek upset Parkview 1-0. Newnan will host seventh ranked Mill Creek on Wednesday at 6 p.m. and will face the winner of Harrison and Woodstock on Saturday.
Whitewater (15-0-1), ranked first in AAAA, beat Morrow 10-0 on Wednesday and host Kell, 4-2 PK winners over Lakeside, DeKalb, this Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. The Lady Wildcats, with a win, will meet the winners of Chattahoochee and Wayne County on Saturday.
McIntosh (16-2-1), ranked second in AAAA, beat Tri-Cities on Wednesday 10-0 and advances to a second round game at fourth ranked Pope (18-1), 9-0 winners over Dunwoody, next Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. The winner will meet the winner of Lee County and Heritage, Conyers on Saturday.
Starr’s Mill (7-11-1) knocked out Forest Park with a 10-0 win last Wednesday. This Wednesday they will play at third ranked Marist (16-1-2) at 6 p.m. The winner will take on the winner of Greenbrier and Lambert on Saturday
